LRI co-sponsors workshops and conferences with scientific societies, international organizations, and governmental agencies that are designed to focus on timely issues of mutual interest to these groups and to policy makers. The primary goals are to foster interactions among researchers and stakeholders, to stimulate discussions that can improve the scientific basis for policy-making and to support consensus building that can advance the risk assessment process.

Recent advancements in new technologies for chemical safety assessment offer considerable promise to improve the scientific foundation of, and increase efficiency in, risk assessments. This workshop “Meeting the Global Challenge of Applying New Scientific Methods to Improve Environmental and Human Health Risk Assessment” will focus on increasing understanding of new methods and building confidence in the use of the new technologies and their data streams for chemical safety assessments and for decision making. The workshop, co-organized with NIES Japan, NIHS Japan and AIST Japan, will feature four concurrent sessions:
- Session 1: New Approaches for Weight-of-Evidence Decision Making for PBTs and POPs
- Session 2: Emerging Environmental Issues: Solutions Catalyzed by International Cooperation
- Session 3: Challenges in Read- Across and Building Confidence for Use in Decision Making
- Session 4: Enhancing Integration of Mechanistic Understanding in Epidemiology
