Flame retardants are well-studied and their contribution to the defense against deadly fires and preservation of life and property is well documented in research literature. NAFRA welcomes the continued use of robust research and scientific evidence to provide the foundation for the safe and effective use of current and new flame retardant technologies, products and applications. As part of its mission, NAFRA promotes the use of accepted data quality and sound scientific practices in the research of flame retardants by industry, governmental agencies and others. In addition, it is committed to expanding the scientific knowledge base by sponsoring research and studies that evaluate the effectiveness of flame retardants in providing fire safety solutions, and their impact on human health and the environment.
NAFRA members remain committed to operating under the principles and guidelines established by Responsible Care® in developing and handling current and new flame retardant technologies. A global chemical industry performance initiative, implemented in the United States through the American Chemistry Council, Responsible Care helps companies track their performance through established environment, health, safety and security measures. Responsible Care companies go beyond government requirements, and make their performance records available to the public. In addition, NAFRA supports the industry’s Voluntary Emissions Control Action Program (VECAP) for managing flame retardant emissions. VECAP represents a chemicals management program based on a commitment to share environmental best practices and procedures with companies of all.
