More than 200 of the most talented and dedicated individuals in Washington, D.C. work for the American Chemistry Council – and they have voted us one of The Washington Post’s Top Workplaces of 2014.
For almost 150 years, ACC has been a staple of DC’s political landscape, tirelessly advocating on behalf of our members and ensuring that the chemical industry continues to grow and contribute to the U.S. economy, including providing almost 800,000 good, high-paying jobs.
But as this prestigious award recognizes, those jobs aren’t just at our members’ manufacturing facilities, or with the many downstream companies who help support our industry. We are proud that some of the chemical industry’s best and brightest are employed here at ACC.
What does it mean to be named a ‘Top Workplace’?
Open to organizations in the Greater Washington Area with 50 or more employees, the Washington Post’s Top Workplaces were determined based solely on employee feedback in two areas, organizational health and employee engagement.
“Being named one of The Washington Post’s Top Workplaces of 2014 is especially rewarding because it was determined by each and every one of us that works here,” said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley. “It’s a great feeling to know that not only do we have some the most talented and capable employees in Washington, but also that we’ve created an environment in which people can excel.”
An overwhelming number of employees participated in the survey, conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading employee research firm, and the results were exceedingly positive.
What do employees say makes ACC a great place to work?
ACC employees rated our organization highly in multiple areas, noting our organization’s overall dedication to excellence, competitive compensation and health/retirement packages, various career development opportunities, numerous on-site training programs, and the strong, productive relationships our employees enjoy with their managers and their associates.
Furthermore, our staff enjoys a diverse workplace, which ACC has helped foster through our employee-led Culture & Values Committee, creating opportunities for employees to honor and celebrate their diversity, both personally and professionally. In addition to the Culture & Values Committee, ACC’s staff participates in the Social Activities and Social Responsibility Committees, which encourage engagement not only within ACC, but also with those less fortunate in our area, helping to support our community and raise money for employee-chosen charities throughout the year.
As committed as ACC is to the happiness of our employees in the workplace, we recognize the importance of employee wellness and a healthy work-life balance, which is why ACC offers employee benefits such as onsite yoga classes, weekly “Healthy Bites Snacks,” a complimentary fitness center onsite, flu shots, and the opportunity to telecommute as a voluntary work alternative. We also sponsor a Healthy Steps Walking Program, and an annual Wellness Week, which focuses on mental, physical and financial help.
ACC believes that employee happiness starts at the very beginning, which is why we strive to recruit and retain high-performing individuals who are dedicated to making ACC a successful organization, and why I am so honored that those individuals recognize and appreciate all that ACC does to foster a positive, healthy, and engaging work environment.
