ACC member Dow Chemical has helped Habitat for Humanity build affordable homes for low-income families since 1983 — and Dow does it in large part through top-notch chemistry that helps the homes become more energy efficient.
Utility bills are typically the second-largest monthly expense for homeowners, after mortgage payments. Lower energy consumption means lower costs and a more affordable living arrangement.
Products such as Dow’s STYROFOAM™ rigid foam insulation help enhance the efficiency of buildings by reducing air infiltration, which accounts for 25-40 percent of the energy used for heating and cooling a typical home. Energy saved is money saved.
Right now, Dow volunteers, including energy efficiency experts, are helping to build homes in 30 communities. As part of its anniversary commitment to Habitat for Humanity, Dow anticipates gift-in-kind contributions of energy-saving STYROFOAM brand insulation products of $4 million.

To date, the Dow has contributed $56.9 million in cumulative giving to Habitat.
