Over the next 8 weeks, ACC would like to reward you for showing us the lengths you’ve gone — large or small — to become more energy efficient in your daily life, and what role you think chemistry plays in making your efforts possible.
Americans do their part every day to conserve energy and cut back on monthly energy costs. Many of those nationwide efforts are supported by innovations made possible by chemistry.
According to a recent survey, 83% of consumers took steps to reduce their electric bills over the past year, and 61% believe that “going through the recession has ultimately been good because it makes us more efficient and reminds us what is important.”
That’s why, in this tough economic climate, we’re asking you to participate in our “From #Chemistry2Energy Photo Contest“ for a chance to earn cash rewards to help pay for your weekly energy bill.
Your challenge…
- Take a picture using Twitter or Instagram that creatively demonstrates how you conserve energy. (Hint: Including innovations made possible by chemistry will earn you Kudos! See here and here for helpful ideas.)
- Include a caption for the image that, in 140 characters or less, puts into words what you’ve captured in the photo.
- Post the photo to Twitter and/or Instagram. Make sure you tag your image with #Chemistry2Energy so we can find it online. And be sure to follow us on Twitter (@AmChemistry) or Instagram (@AmericanChemistry) so we can notify you if you’ve won!
Every Friday, between now and November 15, ACC will announce a weekly top photo to feature on social media and ChemistryToEnergy.com. Each weekly round winner will receive a $50 gift card. At the end of the eight-week contest, we’ll review each of the 8 weekly winners and select 1 to win an additional grand prize of $1,419. That’s what the average U.S. household paid for electricity alone in 2010!
Following the selection of the top eight weekly winning photos, our fans, followers and anyone in the viewing public will be able to vote for their favorites between November 16th and 23rd. We’ll take every vote into consideration in our final selection of the $1,419 grand prize winner by November 30, 2012!
How to get started…
To participate, all you need is a camera, Twitter or Instagram account, and some creative inspiration.
For some starter ideas, do you own a hybrid or electric car? Take a pic. Do you own energy efficient appliances or fluorescent light bulbs? Show them to us! Is your workplace or home powered by renewable energy technologies like solar panels or wind turbines? Well, don’t climb any roofs — draw us a really good picture, and then take a picture of that! The possibilities are virtually endless.
Also, we want you to be able to take as many pictures as you’d like, with the potential to win more than one weekly prize. That means the more photos you take each and every round, the better chances you’ll have of submitting that “winning” image!
So, start snapping, everyone! We’ll announce our first weekly winner next Friday, September 28.
