The mission of the ACC Quality Management Systems (QMS) Group is to
create a value-added system that compliments existing quality management
standards, audits, and certifications while offering the opportunity to
replace duplicative or unnecessary quality management processes. The
goal of this process is to achieve better quality throughout the entire
supply chain by focusing resources on critical quality processes.
Working cooperatively with the auto industry, the QMS Group has
evaluated existing standards and certifications in order to tailor the
QMS processes to the chemical industry, focusing on the bulk material
approval process (BMAP) and the industry’s best practices. Perceived
benefits of this effort include increased value chain stakeholder
satisfaction initially throughout the auto supply industry while
reducing the cost and complexity associated with multiple requirements
and redundant audits.
The initial documents tailored to the auto industry are nearly
complete. The QMS Group intends to work closely with automotive
associations to implement the BMAP program. After focusing on the
automotive sector, the project is intended for application to other
manufacturing sectors. Implementation roll out will focus on the value
chain within the targeted industries and integrating the quality
management concepts with ACC’s Responsible Care program.
Members of the ACC Quality Management Systems Group include BASF, Dow, DuPont, Infineum USA L.P., The Lubrizol Corporation and PolyOne Corporation.
