WASHINGTON (December 18, 2015) - As part of the omnibus appropriations bill passed today, Congress included provisions that will help improve the sharing of useful cyber threat information. Improving the exchange of cybersecurity information is an important component to protecting the technology that helps run chemical facilities, as well as the valuable information regarding intellectual property and customer databases, from a potential attack. ACC joined with other industry groups earlier this year to urge Congress to pass cybersecurity legislation.

The American Chemistry Council issued the following statement in response:

"We commend Congress for including cybersecurity legislation in the final spending bill that will improve the flow of cyber-related threat information between the federal government and the private sector. ACC and its members have been long-time supporters of enhancing the exchange of timely information to identify and address emerging cyber threats. The bill will help support the sharing of cybersecurity information by providing legal protections for businesses, including exemptions from antitrust violations, to encourage industry and government agencies to work together while also carefully safeguarding privacy."
